Even though one hardly notices in the city itself, Rotterdam is one of the world’s largest ports. City and port used to be one, but now they're separate worlds. Pierdrie brings the experience of the port back to the city. The visual and sonic phenomena of the pier in the Rotterdam Waalhaven — the very vastness of the place —inspired Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) Marco Douma, Roel Meelkop and Barbara Helmer to make this work investigating the importance of light and sound for our perception of everyday reality.


KARL LEMIEUX (ca) & BJ NILSEN (se)

Double Négatif Karl Lemieux makes short films and film performances also creating 16mm film for musicians such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and The Black Keys. His Rotterdam visit, is one of dream fulfilment, allowing his very first live collaboration with Touch’s BJ Nilsen to become flesh. Primarily focused on the sound of nature and its effect on humans, BJNilsen’s powerful field recording based compositions will powwow with Lemieux’s freshly arid footage of Death Valley.
