Francisco López

Francisco López’s concerts are immersive sonic experiences in the dark, with multi-channel surround systems and blindfolds provided for the public. Created from a myriad original sound environments (both natural and artificial) collected all over the world, they however don’t present “soundscapes” but rather virtual worlds of sound where the listener develops his/her own experience in an environment where the rules and the parameters are defined by the sounds themselves, felt as space and as a physical dynamic force. Renowned for the intensity, richness and complexity of these virtual worlds, this is one of kind experience not to be missed!

Lee Patterson (performance)

Based in Manchester, he’s spent a lifetime foraging for interesting sounds in his immediate surroundings, such as the secret languages of underwater insects and plants. Using contact mics or hydrophones, the world opens up in front of your ears. "Following on from Cages' 4'33", I've come to realise that both music and noise are entirely context specific and that music arises from a framework of specific listening. Alongside an array of invented sonic devices and processes, I use some of this recorded material in solo improvisation."

Alex MacKenzie

Film alchemist Alex MacKenzie returns to the Rotterdam with the European premiere of his new performance LOGBOOK. With recordings shot on an island off the coast of Vancouver with homemade rudimentary black and white film and a camera from 1923, he creates a modest setup reminiscent of a magic lantern. MacKenzie is also involved in a international research project in creating homemade emulsions in the WORM.filmwerkplaats during the festival.

Makino Takashi and Ishida Takashi - Emaki (film) with Okkyung Lee (cello)

Emaki features Ishida Takashi's supernatural scrolled and painted lines, conjured into life through Tiger Shorts' nominee Makino Takashi's telecine magic. Tonight Emaki, will duel with the fearless, uncompromising Okkyung Lee, a cellist and composer who's extended techniques has seen her working with Laurie Anderson, John Zorn and Christian Marclay. Light and sound that will both hit you in the gut and massage your brain.
