XAVIER QUEREL (fr / Metamkine) –'Quelques minutes de soleil après minuit'

Live 16mm (solo performance) is a cinema/sound/light performance. He plays live with a 16mm film projector, few microphones,a torch light and objects. He retro-project films onto a small screen. but there are moments when light manipulations are reflected on the whole room. He works with my own films, using sometimes a litle bit of found footage. It's non-narrative, mostly abstract even if I like to bring human shape appearances sometimes in that imaginary landscape. Sound is a kind of mechanical electroacoustic. He uses different microphones (contact, guitar..) to amplify or distort sounds from the projector itself. Few field recordings can appear. He plays with rhythm, intensity of light, color and B/W, lens, prism,shadows, flickering strong light, slow burning, punk feedback, soft frequency, ambient "hum", crazy mechanic.....

'Play That Beat Mr. Raja' compiler and the man behind the strange Cartilage label from Paris. Plays a.o. a rare and danceable Tamil TV- and filmrecordings, and Hindi and Pakistani scores.


RIOJIM (Étienne Caire / fr) –'Sounddefect'

A short but powerful 16mm live solo improvisation. Riojim (Étienne Caire) developes and colors his films in his alternative laboratory MTK in Grenoble and is the epitome of the rock and roll approach to film materials: not exactly dealing sensitively with the filmstrips. He plays his projector as if it were an electric guitar with often the destruction of some of the footage.
