Imagining the sounds of the post-folk. The Future Sounds Of Folk takes diverse musical traditions as a starting point for the development of new amalgams of contemporary music. In 2010 Singaporean musician Marc Chia aka One Man Nation's met Sudanese musicians Iman Rohman aka Jimbot and instrument builder and musician from East Java Wukir Suryadi aka Bamboo Wukir. During December 1 - 18th, these three musicians come to the Netherlands for an artist-in-residency and a series of concerts. Tonight at WORM.

Marc Chia aka One Man Nation

Marc Chia aka One Man Nation, is a musician with a background in media and sound art. Graduating in 2009 with a MasterZs in Media Design from the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, he investigates social and psychological situations related to tradition and its progression, the future through the eyes of history, and spirituality in technology through the medium of sound and performance. Past and current collaborations include; Pierre Bastien, Kato Hideki, Hilary Jeffrey, Soopa Collective, Iman Zimbot, Bambu Wuki. The last One Man Nation vinyl-only work was released on Austrian experimental music label Moozak in September 2010.


Iman Rohman aka Jimbot

Iman Rohman aka Jimbot is a Sundanese musician actively investigating the use of traditional Sundanese music with a contemporary expression. In recent years, Jimbot has been involved with Bandung-based new media lab Common Room and their engagement with the local communities in developing the skills and knowledge needed to explore the possibilities of using local instruments and traditional expressions in new and profound ways. Jimbot is also part of the Karinding Attack and TRAH projects.


Wukir Suryadi AKA Bambu Wukir

Wukir Suryadi AKA Bambu Wukir is a musician originally from East Java, now living in Jogja- karta. He performs with a self-made instrument constructed from bamboo that resembles the Sasando from Rote, an island part of the East Nusa Tenggara province of the Lesser Sunda Islands. However there are distinct differences between Wukir and Sasando music both in the shape and how the instrument is played through guitar pickups and loop pedals. He has per- formed throughout Indonesia at large festivals such as the Gamelan International Festival, Solo International Ethnic Music and Percussion Festival Gwalk in Jogjakarta, Surakarta and Surabaya.


Soundpiece Presentatie Dyane Donck

In samenwerking met David Dooghe / Rotterdam festivals heeft WORM een drietal componisten/sounddesigners de opdracht gegeven om een tapecompositie te maken voor 'SOUNDPIECE'; Rutger Zuydervelt, Pierre Bastien en Dyane Donk. Soundpiece is een geluidsinstallatie die zich onder het Schouwburgplein bevindt, geïnitieerd door Poetry International en Kamiel Verschuren. De stukken zullen op van tevoren aangekondigde tijden worden gespeeld -als je je op het plein bevindt zal je ze dus kunnen horen, al kan het onduidelijk zijn waar het geluid vandaan komt.De eerste opvoering vindt plaats in WORM, daarna zullen de stukken alleen nog maar in de openbare ruimte te horen zijn. De Componist die de maand december voor haar rekening neemt is Dyane Donck. Begin volgend jaar zullen de stukken die voor Soundpiece gemaakt zijn op gekleurd vinyl uitkomen op WORMrecords.
