Dirty Beaches is het zonderlinge eenmansproject van de uit Canada opererende Taiwanees Alex Zhang Hungtai. Zijn 'Badlands' was een van de leukste platen van 2011 en staat vol met bezwerende filmische muziek die veel weg heeft van grijs gedraaide jaren '50 rock 'n' roll relikwieën, ondergedompeld in een moeras van lo-fi psychedelica. Dirty Beaches doet hierdoor denken aan Suicide en David Lynch. Live wordt deze 'moderne' crooner bijgestaan door een saxofonist. Voorafgaand aan het concert wordt de inspirerende korte muziekfilm 'Rock My Religion' (1982-84) vertoont. De bekende kunstenaar, kunstcriticus en theoreticus Dan Graham gaat in op de complexe verbanden tussen religie en de beleving van rock muziek. Met o.a. Patti Smith, Sonic Youth en Black Flag. DJ van de avond: Marcel Haug.

Best known for his pavilions dotting prestigious museums throughout the world, Dan Graham’s Rock My Religion is a video tour de force. Graham formulates a history that runs from millennial religious communities of the 18th century, to the saving power of pop culture, mainlined through Patti Smith, Sonic Youth and Black Flag. Violence, sexuality and the complex links between audience, spectacle, belief and politics are the raw material!
