SUN ARAW voor het eerst in Rotterdam als vierkoppige band! Cameron Stallones uit Los Angeles heeft zijn tot de verbeelding sprekende Sun Araw project onlangs naar nieuwe hoogten gekatapulteerd. De epische, met diepe dub geïnfecteerde psychedelica van het prachtige 'Ancient Romans' (2011) was al top, maar de onlangs uitgekomen schijf en samenwerking met de legendarische Jamaicaanse roots reggae vocalisten The Congos doet daar nog een schepje bovenop. Het duo achter de krachtige synthdrone / ambient van MIKE KOLDIN is actief in meerdere boeiende Rotterdamse acts uit de kweekvijver van het Samling label (o.a. Eklin, Bebe Fang, Woud). De leden van de Sun Araw Band (Cameron, Ged, Tony en Butchy – deze laatste is tevens van San Gabriel en Boredoms – ) zullen ons als dj team DUPPY GUN SOUNDSYSTEM trakteren op een heerlijke pot (quote) “outer orbit dancehall” en “extra outernationalisms”. MIKE KOLDIN

Keimpe and Michiel have played (together) in a diverse range of Rotterdam-based bands in the fruitful scene surrounding the Samling record label (i.e. Eklin, Bebe Fang, Woud, all of which performed at WORM before). In MIKE KOLDIN the pair weave together synthesized threads into a dark ambient tapestry of sound. They're still very much in their improvisational phase, fleshing out new ideas. You'll never know what to expect, who knows... you might just witness something magical.

Over multiple cassette releases, three EPs, five full-length albums and some arresting visual work, Cameron Stallones aka SUN ARAW has evolved as a singular purveyor of low-end psychedelia, melted afrobeat and warped dub. Now Stallones has gathered together an ensemble worthy of bringing his music to scorched and transcendental plains in the live setting. After the empire-like sonic scope of last year’s “Ancient Romans” LP, 2012 has seen Sun Araw ascend yet further with the release of ‘ICON GIVE THANK’, an incredible collaborative album between Cameron, M. Geddes Gengras and roots reggae legends The CONGOS via the RVNG label as part of their FRKWYS series.
